Unbound by R.C. Butler is the first book in Ellison Frost - Bound series. It is a crime murder book with a brilliant mix of erotica elements. I have read a lot of books in both genres but not the combination between both and I must say that I really enjoy reading this book. It is not a regular romance story where most of the female leading character is struggling to find herself as a submissive or with a ridiculously rich hero.Lieutenant Ellison Frost is in charge of finding the person who is responsible for the death of a high profile socialite. She is torn between her career and her personal life because Deedrie (the victim) is found dead due to a BDSM scene went wrong. The story basically revolves around Ellison and her team trying to find the murderer.
The authors writing style is simple but in the same time eloquent enough with the information and the details for the readers to picture the scenes. I like the storyline and the main idea of the book but I feel like Ellison's character could be improved a lot more. As a homicide lieutenant, I would say she is not as strong as I hoped for. I tried to find Lieutenant Olivia Benson in her but couldn't; she is more feminine and easily drawn to other people that have the same lifestyle as her.
The ending of the book felt rushed and there isnt enough closure of what had happened but I hope the author will write more about it in the next installment. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is in the mood of a new twist of erotica or murder mystery book.

An erotic murder mystery of sorts, Unbound is not your typical sex-driven story, nor is it your same old boring crime novel. In a perfect combination of suspense and tensed up romance, this book is sure to keep you reading for multiple reasons. I have read both erotica and murder mysteries, but I've never read both of those genres combined in the same story. I figured that I enjoy each of them on their own- so I must like them together right? I wasn't disappointed.
Unbound follows the story of a cop named Ellison Frost. Ellison finds herself trying to uncover the case that hits remarkably close to home. The victim is a well-known socialite who's delved pretty deeply into her sexuality. Because of Ellison's own sexual desires and risque behavior, she's caught in a place where she has to choose between professionalism and holding true to the sexual being she is.
Ellison is a very relatable character. I often feel like female law enforcement officers are often portrayed in a masculine sense in many stories. This book didn't take that route, and although Ellison is a very strong female character, she also has traits about her that certainly bring her womanly aspects to life. R. C. Butler does a magnificent job of introducing you to Ellison in a way that truly helps you connect with her as a person- rather than just a character in this very risque tale. She's relatable in many ways and certainly the kind of character that many female readers are going to enjoy reading about (although by the end of this naughty tale they may not want to admit that to just anyone).
This book does have some very explicit sex scenes and it's not for the light-hearted who blush easily. With that being said, if you're willing to delve into an entirely unique erotic experience that's intense with murder mystery suspense and sexual build-up, Unbound will keep you bound to the pages until the very end. It's a fun read. A bit crazy at times and certainly holds true to it's very provocative nature in each and every chapter. But the storyline as a whole is more than just a sexy tale. It's a very well-written murder mystery with an erotic undertone that brings a sense of pleasure to the pages that I've never found in a crime novel before. A very unique book, but one that I definitely enjoyed. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone interested in delving into something a bit sexy, a bit bad, and a bit intense all at once.

From sexy tech geek Rob Faeye, to sultry Officer Jamie Baker, to the hidden former business partnership between Ell Frost and Angel, the sexual innuendos are crashing all over the place in this novel. This crazy underworld of sex is a crucial key in the death of Miss Deedrie Bouton and eventually those connections will lead to the solving of the murder. And the guilty party, well, let’s just say, you won’t see it coming!
I would highly recommend this book for those who like action packed crime and mystery novels. But caution, you must be willing to enter the world of kinky sex to totally appreciate the writing brilliance in this novel. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering where the twists and turns of the story will take you next. You will want to fasten your seatbelt for this, but trust me, you won’t be disappointed in the ride!
